In this blog, we will be looking at how to stay safe when online. We will be recommending some programs that are free and easy to use.
There are many ways for you to stay safe while
online, the way I do it for myself and my clients is that I use a
service called OpenDNS, you follow the instructions the site gives
you and you can block sites that contain adware or other bad stuff.
This is good to use along side any antivirus program. With OpenDNS
some websites will open up faster.
Blocking infected site is are great way to prevent viruses and
malware. Keeping track of the sites you visit is another good way of
staying safe online. Every website is managed by somebody and you
can usually email them or contact them these people are usually
called webmasters.
Other things you can do is enable parental controls, most operating
systems now have it as an option but it is up to the parents to set
it up and make sure it works. Another way is setting up another user
on the computer that is basically for kids, doing this it will stop
your kids from installing anything on the computer without your
permission, if a child tries and installs a program it will popup
with a dialog box asking for the administrators password. The
administrator is the main user. If you would like to set this up
please contact us and we will help you with it.
Also being smart about what you install on your computer is also a
good idea. Most things you install your antivirus will scan it
before you can install it. Also installing a Malware Search &
Destroy program will help protect your computer.
We recommend ESET Security Suite v6 for Anti-Virus we can supply and
install it for you cheaper than buying direct from ESET as we
normally sell to our clients at cost price.
If you suspect your computer to have been infected by a Virus or Malware please switch of your system and contact easypccare.co.uk straight away. Or if you wish to discuss your options for staying safe online please get in touch.
