Apple yesterday released OS X 10.9.1, the latest update for its desktop OS following the October launch of Mavericks. The update is rather small and contains bug fixes and software optimisations rather than any new features. OS X 10.9.1 contains a host of improvements to the Mail app, including fixes for Gmail and reliability enhancements for smart mailboxes and search. The update also fixes an issue "that prevented content groups from working properly in Mail" and resolves a problem that stopped VoiceOver from reading out sentences that contained emoji. Finally, the Shared Links sidebar will now "periodically" refresh when it's open rather than requiring a manual refresh from users. OS X 10.9.1 can be downloaded from the Mac App Store now.
A separate version is available for owners of the 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display that contains "system specific enhancements."
